Building on the amplifying effect of climate change on rapid- and slow-onset natural disasters ⎯such as extreme weather events, sea level rise or droughts⎯, this paper analyses how the Sendai Framework has integrated human mobility as an additional disaster risk reduction strategy. It also examines the presence of disaster mobility at the last meeting of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in 2022, which preceded the mid-term review of MSRRD implementation, the conclusions of which show that it is not entirely on track. Highlighting the potential of the MSRRD for effective climate mobility management, the good practices that have already been undertaken in various countries and regions, and what remains to be done is all the more pertinent considering that on 18-19 May 2023, the High-Level Meeting on the Mid-Term Review of the Sendai Framework will be held at the UN Headquarters in New York, marking the start of the second and final implementation period of the MSRRD.

Desplazados medioambientales y Derechos Humanos : una construcción conceptual sine qua non para su protección jurídica internacional | Environmental displaced people and human rights: a conceptual construct as previous step for their international legal protection

    Get PDF
This paper is based on the hypothesis that it is not possible to design an international protection regime for people displaced by environmental disruptions without first clarifying what is meant by "environmental displaced" and how this understanding has been reached. Thus, the article is structured in two parts. The first of them aims to reconstruct how the concept of environmentally displacement has been shaped in academic thinking, both from environmental and migratory studies. The second one, on the other hand, analyzes the first definition of environmental displaced which appears, with a legal vocation, on the international scene and the influence that those previous streams have had on it

Video design adaptation to youtube advertising formats

    Get PDF
This work in progress analyzes how different arousal advertising design may enhance online video advertising effectiveness. Previous research suggests that arousing ending designs could increase ad effectiveness. To test this proposition, our research combines different methodologies: a consumer neuroscience pretest is used to identify high and low arousal sequences; a field study based on a YouTube ad campaign is used as an exploratory study which helps to determine the experimental scenarios to be used in the final study with a large sample size. Preliminary results suggest that ad design need to be adapted to new formats of interactive advertising depending on the advertisers’ goals

Execution at RISC: Stealth JOP Attacks on RISC-V Applications

RISC-V is a recently developed open instruction set architecture gaining a lot of attention. To achieve a lasting security on these systems and design efficient countermeasures, a better understanding of vulnerabilities to novel and potential future attacks is mandatory. This paper demonstrates that RISC-V is sensible to Jump-Oriented Programming, a class of complex code-reuse attacks. We provide an analysis of new dispatcher gadgets we discovered, and show how they can be used together in order to build a stealth attack, bypassing existing protections. A proof-of-concept attack is implemented on an embedded web server compiled for RISC-V, in which we introduced a vulnerability, allowing an attacker to remotely read an arbitrary file from the host machine.Comment: 16 pages. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2211.1621

Studying co-running avionic real-time applications on multi-core COTS architectures

    Get PDF
International audienceFor the last decades, industries from the safety-critical domain have been using Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) architectures despite their inherent runtime variability. To guarantee hard real-time constraints in such systems, designers massively relied on resource over-provisioning and disabling the features responsible for runtime variability. The recent shift to multi-core architectures in the embedded COTS market worsened the runtime variability problem as contention on shared hardware resources brought new variability sources. Additionally, hiding this variability in additional safety margins as performed in the past will offset most if not all the multi-core performance gains. To enable the use of multi-cores in this domain, it has become essential to finely characterize at system level the application workload, as well as the possible contention on shared hardware resources. In this paper, we introduce measurement techniques based on a set of dedicated stressing benchmarks and architecture hardware monitors to characterize (1) the architecture, by identifying the shared hardware resources and their associated contention mechanisms. (2) the application, by identifying which shared hardware resources it is sensitive to. Such information would guide us toward identifying which applications can run smoothly together without endangering individual worst-case execution times

    Chaos in computer performance

Modern computer microprocessors are composed of hundreds of millions of transistors that interact through intricate protocols. Their performance during program execution may be highly variable and present aperiodic oscillations. In this paper, we apply current nonlinear time series analysis techniques to the performances of modern microprocessors during the execution of prototypical programs. Our results present pieces of evidence strongly supporting that the high variability of the performance dynamics during the execution of several programs display low-dimensional deterministic chaos, with sensitivity to initial conditions comparable to textbook models. Taken together, these results show that the instantaneous performances of modern microprocessors constitute a complex (or at least complicated) system and would benefit from analysis with modern tools of nonlinear and complexity science

    Guidelines for multilingual linked data

    Get PDF
In this article, we argue that there is a growing number of linked datasets in different natural languages, and that there is a need for guidelines and mechanisms to ensure the quality and organic growth of this emerging multilingual data network. However, we have little knowledge regarding the actual state of this data network, its current practices, and the open challenges that it poses. Questions regarding the distribution of natural languages, the links that are established across data in different languages, or how linguistic features are represented, remain mostly unanswered. Addressing these and other language-related issues can help to identify existing problems, propose new mechanisms and guidelines or adapt the ones in use for publishing linked data including language-related features, and, ultimately, provide metrics to evaluate quality aspects. In this article we review, discuss, and extend current guidelines for publishing linked data by focusing on those methods, techniques and tools that can help RDF publishers to cope with language barriers. Whenever possible, we will illustrate and discuss each of these guidelines, methods, and tools on the basis of practical examples that we have encountered in the publication of the datos.bne.es dataset

    Get PDF
This work in progress investigates the utilitarian, emotional, evaluative, and conative consequences derived from the students’ participation in a project consisting of the creation of audiovisual contents. The project is embedded in an introductory course of marketing and uses the social network YouTube as the context for its development. Specifically, this work analyzes the students’ utilitarian and hedonic value (positive and negative emotions) derived from participating in the activity, their relationship with students’ satisfaction with the activity, and the influence of satisfaction on the intention to continue generating teaching contents. Also, the model proposes that the student’s personality can moderate the relationships between the utilitarian-hedonic aspects and the satisfaction with the activity. The results will offer better understand which elements affect the success of teaching innovations based on the student’s active role and the use of new technologies and social networks, taking into account the student’s characteristics

Schedulability Analysis for Global Fixed-Priority Scheduling of the 3-Phase Task Model

Presented at 23rd IEEE International Conference on Embedded and Real-Time Computing Systems and Applications (RTCSA 2017). Hsinchu, Taiwan.Scheduling real-time applications on general purpose multicore platforms is a challenging problem from a timing analysis perspective. Such platforms expose uncontrolled sources of interference whenever concurrent accesses to memory are performed. The non-deterministic bus and memory access behavior complicates the estimations of applications’ worst-case execution times (WCET). The 3-phase task model seems a good candidate to circumvent the uncontrolled sources of interference by isolating concurrent memory accesses. A task is divided in three successive phases; first, the task loads its instruction and data in a local memory, then it executes non-preemptively using those pre-loaded instructions and data, and finally, the modified data are pushed back to main memory. Following this execution model, tasks never access the bus during their execution phase. Instead, all the bus accesses are performed during the first and third phases. In this paper, we focus on the global fixed-priority scheduling of the 3-phase task model. A new schedulability test is derived by modelling the interference happening on the bus rather than the interference on the cores as in the state-ot-the-art techniques. The effectiveness of the test is evaluated by comparing it against the state-of-the-art.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
